Protect your cat or dog doors from thieves!
What is the truth behind the rumours that robbers enter through cat or dog doors? Since we can't be certain, let's exercise caution and make pet door as secure as possible.
According to the rumours going around, criminals both crawl under cat door installation flaps to enter homes and also avoid homes with dog flaps because of the dogs. Despite the lack of numbers, let's proceed with caution and take appropriate safety measures.
A 20 x 24 cm cat flap won't allow anyone to enter, but what about larger dog doors? There's a gigantic dog hiding behind a massive dog door! Few individuals would deliberately sit on all fours face to face with a large, unusual dog. Most definitely not if you enter a dog's territory in that manner and are unable to defend yourself with your hands. A big risk to literally take by the nose!
There is also the element of surprise on top of that. We have a 20 cm tall, 10 kg maximum Cavalier King Charles who is very watchful. She won't leave much of an impact when that Cavalier runs. But behind her, a 70-kilogram Bull Mastiff that demands solitude arrives as a surprise after a slight delay. Always a friendly dog, but I make no promises as to what will happen next.
Regarding the holidays, when it is obvious that no one is home. The sliding door on the plastic dog doors is occasionally constructed of metal, but it is of such poor quality that it only requires a slight push to open.
We have discovered two answers:
It's pretty clear:
A door that closes firmly!
Solid wood doors that close are 2 cm thick. You will also break that, but it will draw attention and require a lot of work. Steel serves as both the handle and the lock. You'll note that the door has been given careful consideration because it is an integral aspect of the overall design.
A closing door is given as standard with every pet door in the online store because we believe it to be a vital feature.
But, very unexpectedly:
It does not appear to be a pet door!
Let's say the house in this image has a "average" dog door in its front wall.
You would have noticed that.
Now, a curious passerby will assume that it might be a grate, some sort of decoration, or something similar. That this is a dog hatch is a mystery to most people.
Nothing is totally secure against break-ins, but we managed to move our pet doors one step closer by giving the situation some further thought. If you watch the movie with the sound on, you'll only hear that it's good.
Finally, locate the kitty flap ;-)
