How Do You Install a Dog Door in a Screen? 

Any screened area can easily accommodate a cat door installation. In essence, a hole is cut, and a frame with a flap is inserted. The problem that many people experience is that the installation is not long-lasting and the frame is not very sturdy. 

The bottom left or bottom right corner of your screened area is where the dog door's frame is designed to be securely installed. Our unique design secures the pet access door frame to both the mesh and the corner frame of the screen door, as opposed to just the mesh. Your dog enters and exits through a flexible flap inside the frame. Once your pet has passed through the door, a combination of magnets and weather stripping in the pet door frame forces the flap to seal tightly. This layout contributes to making it more "bug-proof." 

If you have a large dog, we advise choosing a design with a stabilizer bar to make it even more durable. In addition to the support in the corner, this design provides additional support across the top of the dog door frame. For larger dogs who require more force to enter and exit the door, stabilizer bars are especially useful. 

Do I Need a Dog Door? Is My Screen Door Too Thick? 

It's crucial to know how thick the screen door frame is because that's where the dog door frame attaches. 

Although many screen doors are up to 1 14 inches thick, some are only half an inch thick or less. You would require a remedy like our universal model screen pet door for this. The bottom corner of a screen door or window frame that is more than 1/2 inch thick can also fit this one. The universal screen pet door is completely reversible, fits into either corner of the screen frame, and requires a different installation method than the standard model. 

This model's universal design means that it is held in place with screen spline and clips rather than screws into the "people door" frame, making it less secure than the standard model. In order to fit wider screen door frames, our cut model screen dog door, which is identical to the standard 12" or less model but has one leg removed, serves as a third option. Since the screen pet door is no longer reversible due to this modification, you must decide which corner you want it in before placing your order. 

Do Windows or Other Screened Enclosures Have Dog Doors? 

In the same way you would install a screen door, you can install a dog door in a window and/or other screened-in areas. Make sure to take insects into account when selecting a pet door for your screened-in area. There are screen door designs that are constructed for convenience but are not very effective at keeping insects out.
